Meet Jean-Simon Royer, Software Developer
Our software developer and architect of Lucy, our AI agent, pulls back the curtain on the technology behind the speed, quality and intelligence of the Stamped platform.

The technology behind the speed, quality and intelligence of the Stamped platform.
At Stamped, innovation doesn’t come only from technology trends. It’s born from the daily collaboration between our developers and our CPAs. Jean-Simon Royer is the perfect embodiment of that: a software developer who learned to think like an accountant, and who puts this dual perspective at the service of a platform that concretely changes our clients’ lives.
1. Jean-Simon, can you introduce yourself and tell us about your professional background?
Of course! I’ve been a software developer at Stamped for several years now. My background is rooted in software development, but what makes it distinctive is that I’ve progressively built a deep knowledge of the accounting field over my years here. I’m not a CPA, but today I understand the stakes, the regulatory constraints and the concrete needs of the teams working on audit, review and compilation engagements. It’s this combination of technical expertise and understanding of the field that allows me to build tools that truly make a difference day to day.
2. What exactly is your role at Stamped?
My role is to design and evolve the platform that our clients and our team use every day. That covers the client experience as much as the internal tools that let our CPAs work more efficiently. But the project that has taken up a big place in my day-to-day for a while now is Lucy, our AI agent. I’m the one behind her development, and it’s a role I’m passionate about because it sits exactly at the intersection of two worlds I love: cutting-edge technology and a demanding professional field like accounting.
3. What exactly is Lucy, and why that name?
Lucy is our artificial intelligence agent, integrated directly into our platform. Her role is to increase the quality and quantity of the analyses our team performs on every file. Concretely, she helps our CPAs be more thorough, faster and more rigorous in their work. She doesn’t replace professional judgment — she supports and amplifies it. As for the name, there’s a little story behind it that we love to tell. Lucy is the name of the oldest human skeleton ever discovered, found in Ethiopia in 1974. The paleontologists who made the discovery were listening to the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds on repeat that night, and the name stuck. We thought it was a beautiful metaphor for our AI agent: something anchored in our origins, but that propels us toward the future.
4. How does Lucy concretely change the work of CPAs at Stamped?
Before Lucy, some analyses took a lot of time because they depended entirely on our team’s availability and workload. Now, Lucy can take on a significant part of that analytical work autonomously, continuously and without delay. What that changes concretely is that we can cover more ground on every file, catch elements that could have slipped through the cracks and deliver even more complete results to our clients. Our CPAs can therefore focus their energy on value-added decisions rather than repetitive tasks.
5. Stamped has been betting on AI for several years already. How did you get there?
We started integrating AI into our processes well before it was trendy. We believed very early on that technology could fundamentally transform the way accounting services are delivered. What really accelerated things in the past year is the combination of two factors: the major advances in AI worldwide and, above all, the close collaboration between our technical team and our operational team. The CPAs give us concrete feedback on what works in the field, and we translate that into features. It’s this constant dialogue that lets us achieve results with real impact.
6. Speaking of which, how does collaboration work between the development team and the accounting team?
It’s truly one of our great strengths at Stamped. We don’t work in silos. The CPAs don’t hand us a list of requests that we execute without understanding the context. We work together, we understand the engagements, we observe how files unfold and we look together for the places where technology can bring the most value. This closeness means we avoid building tools that look great on paper but are useless in real life. What we deliver is built for the field, by people who understand the field.
7. What is the Stamped platform for a client who doesn’t know it yet?
For a client, Stamped is a centralized, secure space where everything happens: submitting documents, exchanging with the team, tracking the progress of their file and receiving the final deliverables. All of it accessible from any device, at any time. No more digging for a lost email in an inbox or wondering where your file stands. Transparency is total and the experience is designed to be as simple as possible. We know our clients are busy entrepreneurs. Our platform respects their time.
8. What technically sets the Stamped platform apart from what’s found elsewhere?
Several things, but I’d say what makes us truly different is the deep integration between financial data and our AI layer. We don’t just store documents and send notifications. Our platform reads, interprets and acts on the data. The automatic mapping of data from QuickBooks or Xero, anomaly detection, Lucy-assisted analyses… all of that is built natively into our process, not bolted on after the fact. It’s an architecture designed from the start to be intelligent, and that makes an enormous difference in the quality and speed of delivery.
9. Where is Stamped in its technological evolution, and where are you headed?
We’re in a really exciting period. The advances of the past year have been remarkable, and we’re clearly not at the end of what we can do. Lucy keeps evolving, our integrations are getting deeper and we have projects underway that will make collaborating with our clients even smoother. What I can say is that we don’t settle for following technology trends. We look to apply them in a concrete, useful way in a field that really needed it. There’s still a long way to go in the digital transformation of accounting services, and we fully intend to be at the forefront of that change.
10. A word for the entrepreneurs still hesitating to adopt a platform like Stamped?
I’d tell them to try it. Not in the abstract, but to come see concretely what it looks like. We often hear from people who think technology will complicate things or that their current CPA does the job just fine. It’s not about replacing anything — it’s about the client experience. Do you want to keep sending files by email, waiting weeks for your deliverables and never knowing where your file stands? Or would you prefer a smooth, transparent and fast experience, delivered by professionals using the best tools available? The answer is usually pretty obvious once you’ve seen how it works.
